A journey characterized by luminous architecture and volumes with a geometrical, interactive design, showcasing the finest wines and celebrating the top restaurants in Italy. On Thursday 11th October 2007, from 10.30 a.m., at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence, Pitti Immagine will be presenting the latest edition of Espresso magazine’s I Vini d’Italia 2008 [Guide to Italian Wines 2008] and, for the first time,I Ristoranti d’Italia 2008 [Italian Restaurants 2008], which is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this very year. The event is realized in collaboration with the Banca Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze (Centro Imprese Agrarie), the Florence Chamber of Commerce and the Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana.
For the fifth consecutive year, Pitti Immagine will be presenting the initiative promoted by Espresso magazine which enhances one of the best known and most important industries of our country: Italian wines which, like fashion, constitute an important vehicle for promoting the excellence of Italian products around the world. The exciting new feature for this edition is the addition of the Ristoranti d’Italia 2008 guide: the veteran guidebook dedicated to Italian restaurants which, during the event, will be celebrating thirty years of reviews of restaurants, trattorias, taverns, and wine-bar eateries, as well as the long list of successes that has made it one of the top publications for wine enthusiasts.
The various events held throughout the course of the day will include the extraordinary participation of Federico Quaranta, the brilliant presenter of the program dedicated to “food and wine connoisseurship”, DECANTER, on Radio 2:
- the event will open, at 11.00 a.m., with the presentation of the Guida Vini 2008 (20,000 wines tasted, around 10,000 wines graded, over 1,700 labels singled out for their quality/price ratio), followed by the awards for excellence and tasting of the wines selected. The president of Pitti Immagine, Gaetano Marzotto, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Florence, Luca Mantellassi, and the editors of the guide, Enzo Vizzari, Ernesto Gentili and Fabio Rizzari, will all be attending.
- then, from 12.00 p.m., the GUIDA RISTORANTI 2008 will be presented, based on research carried out in 2,800 venues all over the country, 500 of which are mentioned for the first time. This will be followed by the presentation of the awards to the venues receiving the highest “grades”.
- in the afternoon, from 3.00 p.m., the fourth edition of the auction of fine and collector’s wines organized by thePANDOLFINI auction house will be held. Following on the heels of the successes of the first three editions, this year’s auction will consist of approximately 165 lots equally divided between Italian and French wines. The sale includes “Supercampania” lots from Terra di Lavoro Galardi, a large presence of the “Supertuscans”, including Solaia and Tignanello, a selection of fine bottles from the famous Domaine de la Romanée Conti in Burgundy and, finally, the auction’s “top lot”, 50 bottles of Mouton Rothschild from 1957 to 2004, with valuable labels created by artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Warhol and Kandinsky.
The venue for all these events will be the Stazione Leopolda, transformed for the occasion by a layout project from architect Alessandro Moradei with graphic contributions by Lorenzo Stralanchi. The venue’s versatile ambients make it the ideal place for hosting events of great prestige with strong communicative features.
