Expressionism—an aesthetic school that gleefully and adamantly rejected empirical reality and created works expressing pure subjective experience, dreams and rages and seeing things your own way—is alive and well.  In 2009, architects 70ºN Arkitektu created marvelously Expressionist buildings that said “Damn your architectural rules and straight lines, here’s how I *feel about built space.” They are weird and wonderful, and artists Yann Vasnier and Rodrigo Flores-Roux built a similarly Expressionist work of scent two years later.

“Anima Dulcis” is remarkable for refusing to accept any rule any art form might want to impose on it and for expressing a vast amount in its on subjective manner. It is all but useless to characterize the work. “Sweet Soul” is sweet—except to those who find it not—and sweaty and emotional and calm, gourmand except when it is floral. It expresses multiple points of view.
