Under the light by Istituto Marangoni

Istituto Marangoni

The Pitti Uomo Calendar includes two events put on by the Istituto Marangoni fashion school. At the Dogana on Monday 11 June at 6.00pm, the school will be staging a fashion event in which it presents collections from its 10 best menswear designers. This is more than the average fashion show; an exciting performance will spotlight the work of these very young designers in a brand new way. The new concept, christened Under the light, will explore the theme of how fashion and art influence each other. Over the course of the evening the Best menswear designer 2018 will be announced; an alumnus of the institute, designer Armando Costa, will also be in attendance, presenting Maneki neko, the SS 2019 collection developed with 8IGB – and launching the brand new sweatshirt collection created by the school in partnership with Luisaviaroma, which will go on sale as a limited edition on luisaviaroma.com.

On Thursday, 14 June at 12 noon a talk will be held with Sara Sozzani Maino at the Istituto Marangoni premises at 17, Via Tornabuoni; this wraps up the New Challenges project, which is the result of a collaboration between Istituto Marangoni and Vogue Talents. The contest was devised in order to promote and support young talents; the 50 most promising youngsters will be awarded study bursaries each worth €5000, to cover up to a maximum of 50 percent of the first year’s tuition fees. The bursaries are valid for any of the three-year degree courses starting at the school’s Milan and Florence sites in the 2018/2019 academic year.
Another speaker at the talk on 14 June is Ermanno Scervino, Brand Ambassador for the Florence school, who will be presenting the Scervino – Fondazione Zeffirelli project. For this project, students from the Istituto Marangoni interpreted twelve costumes for the famous play “The Taming of the Shrew”, in a contemporary style. The goal was to involve students in a project that combines a creative approach with skilled craftsmanship. Both events are by invitation only.
