A major multimedia project that turns the spotlight onto fashion’s particular attraction to the world of football, and on how male imagery is constructed, showing how tailoring teams up with sportswear. FANATIC FEELINGS – Fashion Plays Football, the exhibition staged by Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery, curated by Markus Ebner, founder of German fashion magazines Achtung Mode and Sepp Football Fashion, and by the contemporary art critic Francesco Bonami, will open on Tuesday, 12 June at the Santa Maria Novella complex (until 22 July, entrance free).
Fanatic Feelings will showcase sketches by Karl Lagerfeld and Hiroshi Tanabe – one of today’s top fashion illustrators – portraying famous footballers; it will also offer a rich selection from the archives of Sepp Football Fashion, spanning the years 2002 to 2018. The images, selected by Francesco Bonami, feature footballers such as Kaka, Edison Cavani, Jérôme Boateng or Mesut Özil. As part of the exhibition, “A 21st century portrait” will be screened, Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno’s documentary film about Zinédine Zidane.
The exhibition will also use photos to discover #YOOXSOCCERCOUTURE – the YOOX project developed in partnership with Sepp – that brought together, on the occasion of the Football World and European Cup competitions held in recent years, a team of international designers for an exclusive capsule collection of sweatshirts and t-shirts inspired by their own countries. The edition of #YOOXSOCCERCOUTURE created for the next football World Cup in Russia 2018 will be presented in a special pop-up store.
