FASHION, A NEW WAVE: KOREAN TALENTS

BMUET (TE)

What does it mean for you to participate at Pitti Uomo? And what do you expect from this experience in Florence?

As we all know, Pitti Uomo is the best place to show. We are very excited about the prospect of raising our brand awareness and introducing our store to a global audience through this trade show.

What about the collection: what are the main sources of inspiration? What kind of man do you have in mind for it?

For the collection, we are looking at the art work by German artist, Hans Bellmer. We thought up different ways to structure the human body and also derived the idea of an abnormal human body structure from the story and images of freak sideshows which were popular in England in the Victorian era. And we love the kind of man who has his own voice.

How would you define your style? How do you think that other people (the public, clients) perceive it?

We define our style as a new take on innovative construction and poetic expression, to push beyond the boundaries of traditional ideas and all limits to thought. And people can just look at our image and hear our story, and then they’ll perceive our style. Image is the most important thing to understand.

What does contemporary fashion mean for you? And in this regard, what is the difference between East and West in terms of male attitudes and fashion tastes?

We think contemporary fashion is a means of communication for us. It shows how we convey our ideas, our story and our style, and embodies the new values of modern times. And as for contemporary fashion and style, we don’t think there is much difference between East and West as we are getting closer, and nowadays we can look at what is happening in the world with just a click of the mouse at the same time. It makes us share ideas and tastes in fashion. But we just think the East is currently undergoing a big change from the past, so there is a tendency to be more open to new styles than ever before. And as for the West, we think they already know how to preserve their history and traditions and create developments towards a new perspective for the future.

What projects do you have for the future, professionally speaking?

We need to tell people about our story and make our names known to more people so we will have more opportunities to show and to expand our label to more international markets such as Shanghai Fashion Week and Seoul Fashion Week. That way we can increase our global brand awareness, develop our brand image and create new value for our label.

ORDINARY PEOPLE

What does it mean for you to participate at Pitti Uomo? And what do you expect from this experience in Florence?

I am honored to participate at Pitti Uomo with my fashion show. I have always dreamed of representing South Korea in Italy and In Florence as well. This means I am getting closer to the work I have always liked and wanted to do, and accessing the thing that makes me most excited. I am full of excitement and expectation because I plan to show my clothes to a lot of people through Pitti Uomo trade show.

What about the collection: what are the main sources of inspiration? What kind of man do you have in mind for it?

I’m mostly inspired by the action of SEEING something, such as while traveling and watching movies. And I try to embody in the clothes the lives of the people who live in the area I have traveled to or watched in movies, and their attitudes and scents. I put my effort into getting inspiration from a variety of people not from one special person. I always consider making the clothes that an ordinary person can wear and will want to wear, people like me or my friends.

How would you define your style? How do you think that other people (the public, clients) perceive it?

Lots of people are passing by, walking along the street. Even though they look normal, they must have their own unique personality. "Having something special in the ordinary" is the thing I seek for. Ordinary People clothes are not all that outstanding. But I often hear from the people who wear my clothes that Ordinary People clothes are stylish and comfortable in their daily life.

What does contemporary fashion mean for you? And in this regard, what is the difference between East and West in terms of male attitudes and fashion tastes?

Well, I think that contemporary fashion is a form of art because people could be seen to be creating art by wearing something on their bodies.

What are your projects for the future, professionally speaking?

I truly try to show a collection that develops every season, and that satisfies people. By showing the Ordinary People collection in South Korea but also abroad, I hope that all ordinary people can find out their own "special" mood through the Ordinary People collection.
