Pitti Tutorship awards Simona Marziali and Maria Turri Ferro: the two fashion design winners of Who Is On Next 2018

On Saturday 30 June, the Cinecittà studios, the striking new location for this summer’s edition of Altaroma 2018, hosted the awards ceremony of the competition Who Is On Next?, a fashion scouting project dedicated to young talents from the world of fashion, created and organized by Altaroma in collaboration with Vogue Italia: it is a workshop for Italian-made creations that are directly projected onto the international markets, thanks to the collaboration and support of the ICE Italian Trade Agency in Rome and its network of offices abroad.
The winners of Who Is On Next 2018 are: Simona Marziali, a fashion designer from Emilia Romagna who has worked for brands such as Iceberg and Dieseland who is now launching the MRZ brand, in honour of the history of her family that has been working in textiles manufacture for 40 years; and Maria Turri Ferro from Verona, who comes from an artistic background as a former artist and, for the love of sewing, attended dressmaking courses and created the MTF Maria Turri label, which focuses on hand-crafted clothing, supporting the choice of Italian-made fabrics.
The jury’s decision to award the Spring Summer 2019 collections of these two designers was unanimous, because each collection reflects the two sides of Made in Italy: Simona Marziali’s MRZ brandreinterprets Italian wool manufacture from a witty, modern stance, while Maria Turri Ferro’s MTF combines a hand-crafted approach with poetic silhouettes.
Pitti Immagine is appointing both winners with the Pitti Tutorship prize, which consists of six months of intense tutoring activity, supporting them in the structural work required to get their brands established and monitoring the young designers’ progress.
Marco Lanero’s Delirious Eyewear collection received a special mention at the awards ceremony: the jury was impressed by the brand’s intelligent, sustainable approach in finding innovative materials, and by the appreciation it shows for excellent Italian manufacture.
