PITTI IMMAGINE PRESENTS

THE ITALIAN WAY OF FASHION: THE 6267

Il modo italiano (The Italian way of fashion) is a new Pitti Immagine project devoted to Italian fashions. It is not a search for roots or an identity – something that would be out of place in a world of contaminations, links and hyperlinks. Rather, it is an analysis of a junction where ideas, concepts and practices of contemporary fashion merge together.

The exhibition dedicated to Donna Simonetta and the presentation of the 2008-2009 f/w precollection by 6267 at the Galleria di Arte Moderna of Palazzo Pitti, are just the beginning of a reconnaissance tour between past and present with the goal of moving beyond the concept of Made in Italy to arrive at a preliminary definition of the Italian “Way of Fashion”.

6267: Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi, are “The great hope for Italian fashion future” is what Sarah Mower has written on Style.com. They, who are also the creative minds of Malo, simply say that they want to “interpret people’s desires,” and look to the legendary Walter Albini – the first to promote Italian prêt-à-porter as an expression of design applied to fashion in an innovative way. In their structured, embracing clothes the materials become one with the shapes. It is no longer a question of “vintage” but worn with history and it all comes together in a collection made with sartorial lines and proportions. The power of fashion is in the dual look – a duo that moves past and present and puts yesterday into every throb of today. 6267 cultivates thought about how to dress in the sense of a complex and articulated project. No more bodies used as clothes racks, but clothes that define and give strength to the bodies.
In a setting that will give fashion the aura of its old glamour, 6267 will present the 2008-2009 f/w collection in Palazzo Pitti.

6267 is Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi.  Tommaso was born in Puglia and studied at the Accademia di Moda e Costume in Rome; Roberto, from Bologna, attended the Istituto Secoli in Milan. Their headquarters is in Mantua where, in 2004 – after a few years spent as consultants for an important Italian company – the 6267 brand, inspired by a summer camp ID code, was born.  Their big breakthrough was winning first prize at “Who’s on Next?”, the competition for emergent designers organized by Vogue Italia and Alta Roma. This was followed by their debut in Milan where, last February, 6267 presented their 2007-08 f/w women’s collection to extraordinary public and critical acclaim.
