The Extraordinary Library exhibit, one hundred outstanding published works for children selected by the Bologna Children’s Book Fair for Pitti Immagine Bimbo 84 (19-21 January 2017), comes to Rimini. The exhibit will open to the public on 17 October at 5pm in the Galleria Dell’Immagine of the Biblioteca Gambalunga, showcasing a collection (curated by Silvana Sola and Marcella Terrusi) of one hundred illustrated children’s books from around the world that represent the history of fashion through textures, illustrations, unforgettable characters, visual narration, and pop-ups. 100 surprising books, including biographies of designers, icons of fashion, visions, stories, plots and intrigues, symbols and colours, all from different parts of the world: from Korea to Brazil, from the United States to Northern Europe, from Japan to Italy, and from Italy to the rest of the world.
The Extraordinary Library exhibit originated within the context of a broader collaboration between the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (the most important international children’s book fair in the world) and Pitti Immagine Bimbo, a remarkable bridge between the publishing world and children’s literature and the culture and techniques of fashion.
The Rimini edition of The Extraordinary Library was made possible by the Convention between the University Campus and the Biblioteca Gambalunga and was promoted and curated by Elena Collina for the Campus Library together with the Municipality of Rimini and the Department of Sciences for Quality of Life, with Roberto Farné and Marcella Terrusi and with the collaboration of the university course in Culture and Techniques of Fashion.
Through the display curated by Susan Mohamed, The Extraordinary Library offers visitors a chance to read, discover, touch, leaf through, and look at the pictures of books that bring fashion, costume, art, and design to the printed page through narration as well as through the power of images and shapes, to inspire amazement and new associations through the reading experience.
Illustrated works as precious and refined as high-end garments, publishing gems which promote reading, hone the eye, and offer all readers a new chance to immerse themselves in the imagery of children’s books and fashion, inspiring new visions.
The following will speak at the opening:
Councillor Massimo Pulini, Municipality of Rimini
