Fortezza da Basso

This innovative experiment, is the only one of its kind in the world. A constantly developing and evolving laboratory/workshop that uses knits to convey the changes in tastes and styles to experts and creatives in every field, the Spazio Ricerca at Pitti Immagine Filati is an event that tests new visual languages each season.

The Spazio Ricerca at Pitti Immagine Filati 59 is Bodybazaar.
The exploration of the sublime and seductive union of man and machine is the key concept for the creation of new yarns that test the parallels between natural and artificial.
In its quest for immortality and perfection the human body – natural and organic – joins up with technology and the artificial. The body is the wrapper or container to develop and strengthen with an infinity of highly technological gadgets, objects, tools and accessories that amplify and expand its natural potential. It is an iter that while protecting the body’s emotional aspects, projects into the future of body language and communications and creates a new concept: biomantic – bionic romantic.
The theme of this edition’s Spazio Ricerca is the analysis of all aspects of the body’s structure and all its potential relations and interactions with the technological and artificial. This is the starting point for the experiments that lead to the creation of yarns, stitches, colors and knitwear fantasies for the 2007-2008 fall winter season.

At the entrance to the Cavaniglia Pavilion, a huge eye dominates 250 sq. meters of totally black space and 16 monoliths. It is an effect that deliberately cites the visionary sets of Stanley Kubrick’s, 2001, A Space Odyssey, and the sublime union of past and future, natural and artificial. Each monolith displays and analyzes a part of the body or machine through video installations, yarns and knits projecting the visitor into the atmosphere of a “Natural Science museum of the future” and suggesting stitches, structures, effects and colors.
