Focusing on creativity in the new generation of designers

It’s time for the sixth edition of Feel the Yarn. An integral part of Pitti Filati, directed by Pitti Immagine, the competition for aspiring designers from some of the world’s best fashion schools aims at expanding the creative potential of yarns manufactured by the finest mills in Tuscany.

This project is the result of collaboration between Consorzio Promozione Filati, Elementi Moda and Pitti Immagine. Half training project, half contest, at Feel the Yarn 21 students from the most important fashion design schools in the world will take on the challenge of Dual – this edition’s theme centered on contrasts and fusion of opposites: volume, material, stitches/workmanship and color, presenting garments they designed and knitted with yarns provided by Tuscan Mills. The young designers’ projects will be displayed in the inner courtyard of the Main Pavilion so that they can been seen and judged by all the visitors to the fair.

Then, an official judging panel - Eleonora Stefanel (Gruppo Stefanel), Nicola Nicolini (SHE’S SO), Patrizia Gatti (Vogue Italia), Philippa Watkins (Textile View /Textile Outlook International), Elke Dieterich (Textil Wirtschaft), Karin Veit (Chef Designer Marc Cain) and Janet Prescott (Independent writer and journalist, Fabric and Yarns Editor for Twist) – will examine each entry in detail, focusing on innovative content and interpretation of the competition’s theme. The prize: a scholarship offered by Consorzio Promozione Filati to finance further training and study, and a highly specialized internship offered by Gruppo Stefanel.
