Recycled materials, sustainable fibers: a temporary trend or textile sector’s permanent shift?

Sustainable Textile Workshop opens At Pitti Immagine Filati 83

Wednesday 27 June from 14.30, at the Press Room of the Fortezza Da Basso on the occasion of Pitti Filati 83, Confindustria ToscanaNord, Textile Exchange, Mohair South Africa and Icea present "Advancing Sustainability Through Recycled Fibers and Animal Welfare in Animal Fiber Production", a workshop dedicated to the theme of recycled fibers targeting sustainability in the production of textile fibers. The Sustainable Textile Workshop is born to respond to the actual change in the sector, increasingly attentive to recycled materials and sustainable fibers.
Over the past several years, more and more brands are asking for recycled materials and sustainable fibers. Wool and cotton have been recycled for decades, but it has only been recently considered a “value-added” material. Furthermore, for animal fibers, the responsible management of animal welfare is becoming very important, what has changed? Is demand for recycled materials part of a trend, or a permanent shift in the industry? Confindustria Toscana Nord is partnering with Mohair South Africa, Textile Exchange and ICEA to host a seminar during Pitti Filati 83 to open the dialogue between the producers of recycled wool and market decision- makers. The workshop will provide an opportunity for brands, suppliers, and other industry players interested in recycled wool to build long-term strategies for success. The workshop will include: Andrea Cavicchi, President of the Fashion Section, Confindustria Toscana Nord, Hanna Denes of Global Recycling Standard (GRS) and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), Deon Saayman Executive Director of Mohair South Africa, Paolo Foglia Textile certification Manager ICEA and Giuseppe Bartolini from BuzziLab.
