interview with Umberto Germanetti from Filatura Cervinia

By Fulvio Ravagnani

Filatura CERVINIA was set up in 1946, in an area that has always been famous for its wool production: the Biella area. Today it has become a complete production cycle company with worldwide distribution. Starting from the process of choosing the raw materials, the company goes on to produce coloured balls of wool that are ready for immediate processing, with perfect weight calibration and a soft feel. The company site covers a surface area of 25,000 square metres and achieves on-site production of over 2,000,000 Kg of yarn, that is, 50 million balls. We asked Umberto Germanetti – the managing director at Filatura CERVINIA – a few questions to find out a bit more about the company and about its first participation at Pitti Filati.
Your company has a 70-year-old history: how did you manage to survive all this time, in a professional environment that has changed a lot?
By innovating while respecting our tradition, that is, following the transformations and continuous demands of the market while at the same time remaining faithful to our core business.
It’s your first time at Pitti Filati: what does this occasion mean for you?
Pitti Filati is an important event for the sector and a showcase to the world, and we are honoured to be part of it.
What is the greatest satisfaction for someone in your position?
Our greatest satisfaction is to have key customers who have been buying from us for decades. This makes us aware that we are a beacon for the yarn sector, and we are proud to be so.
What is your next goal?
To consolidate our position of leadership in the market, which we’ve achieved through being a vertically integrated company that promotes Italian-made products.
