Friday 29 June, on the occasion of Pitti Filati 83, thewinner nomination of the ninth edition of FEEL THE YARN award was appointed at Fortezza da Basso central pavilion basement. The competition is focused on giving promotion and support to young knitwear designers and is organised by Consorzio Promozione Filati with the support of Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery.
This edition of FEEL THE YARN resulted in the nomination of Margot Vaaderpass, fashion designerfrom the Royal College of Art, singled out from the creations of 26 students, chosen from 14 of the most prestigious international fashion institutes. The young Estonian designer won a monetary award provided by Biella Yarn, part of the Südwolle Group, which will enable the designer to continue her studies.
The Feel the Yarn prize also appoints the winner with two internships, one offered by PORTS which went to Ellis Jaz, also from the Royal College of Art, and the other by Trafi Creatività, won by Büke Cayci from the Hochschule Niederrhein.
The theme for the students taking part in this year’s competition was Hybridization, a topic which Margot Vaaderpass succeeded in interpreting with creativity and skill in her creations enhancing the material qualities of INDUSTRIA ITALIANA FILATI yarns. Her project explored nature and its representations through technology, laying emphasis on the future of traditional knitwear in the context of the hybridization of natural and technological aspects.
Vaaderpass’ talent was recognised jointly by a jury of experts in the sector and by the votes of visitors to the Pitti Filati show. The jury for this year’s competition was composed of Janet Prescott (journalist, Twist magazine), Philippa Watkins (textiles writer), Elke Dieterich (journalist, TextilWirtschaft), Beatrice Campani (journalist, Ansa), Ornella Bignami (Elementi Moda), Francesca Tacconi (Pitti Immagine) and Lorenzo Incagli (CPF-Consorzio Promozione Filati).
