It began at Mantua in 1911 when Luigi Bianchi, and later his son, Edgardo, came up with a new concept in the man’s suit. They wanted to combine the care that went into traditional tailoring with the potential of industrial series production that was in its early, almost embryonic, stage. Success came quickly thanks to a passion for the most beautiful fabrics, for the most elegant lines and for the hand-finished details.
One hundred five years have gone by since then, the world has changed and Lubiam changed at the same pace. Today, even though Lubiam is an internationally successful company, its basic principles are still the same: fine craftsmanship combined with excellent design and the latest technologies. It is the essence of the best of Made in Italy applied to four, very different collections (L.B.M.1911, Luigi Bianchi Mantova Sartoria, Giozubon, Lubiam 1911 Cerimonia) that are all coherent with the basic philosophy.
Lubiam ended 2015 with an 11% rise in turnover with respect to the previous year, a trend that is continuing now in 2016, and the company increased its staff by 10%. Exports account for 45% of their sales, with the greater portion going to the United States, then to France, Japan, Switzerland, Canada, Netherlands and Russia. The company is still based in the historic headquarters and is still managed by the Bianchi family – a record that not many businesses can boast of: the chairman is Giuliano and he works with his children Edgardo, Giovanni, Giulia and Gabriele and his grandson, Andrea, who are all devoted to perpetuating Lubiam’s original values.
These values include a deeply felt sensitivity to social issues, commitment and responsibility to the families of their employees and the entire community: from the daycare facilities for employees’ children to cultural projects – from the longstanding partnership with the Guggenheim Collection in Venice to support for the ManyovaCreativa festival to the contemporary art projects in the Palazzo Ducale.
These are factors that have earned Lubiam the Pitti Immagine Uomo 2016 Award.
