Resort tendency. Luxury and beachwear collections with a nonchalant sartorial style

Lightness, freshness and imagination: the mantra of a new reinterpretation of urban aesthetics with a focus on luxury and a crossover vision, on show at the upcoming edition of Pitti Uomo. For SS17 the classic man’s wardrobe keeps its eye on holidays, even in the city. Multi-dimensional collections that exude elegance and the colours of the French Riviera: pastel and dusty shades.

From Paoloni, the jacket is the cult garment: macro weaves and robust fabrics blend with loose-fitting garments. 3D textures and designs, tone-on-tone or contrasting, enhance the patterns and the comfort of cottons, while an independent current is chambray on garment-dyed or jersey “knitted” effect jackets. Drumohr also focuses on a laidback style, launching the Informal Jacket project. A special series of full-fashioned jackets, strictly stretch, designed for an international man with a globetrotter’s attitude.

For leisure time, by Bananatime, an independent Dutch brand, the concept of everyday luxury is evident in shirts and shorts to wear at home, on the beach, while travelling or in everyday life. The key combination, versatility combined with comfort, for a pure silk capsule collection (easy care and machine washable) enlivened with eccentric prints. Geometric patterns, tailored fit and painstaking attention to detail are the fulcrum of special luxury swimwear collections dedicated to modern travellers at ease at a pool party or at the Rio Carnival.

From Thorsun – the brainchild brand of George Sotelo, a designer working in New York with a passion for travel and surfing, and the creativity of an Australian tailor based in Savile Row – to Coast Society, which from the Principality of Monaco expresses the tailored vision of men’s beachwear.
The inspiration comes from colourful, playful Riviera atmospheres, with polo shirts and T-shirts available in cool pastel colours and swimming costumes with graphics influenced by Bauhaus design.

And then comes Robinson Les Bains. The designer, Christophe Vérot explains the story and inspirations of these first ten years through an interweaving of patterns and colours experienced in the authentic spirit of the brand. An ironic look, sophisticated prints with a nod to the world of comics and the seaside lifestyle on the most loved coasts. More exotic inspiration at PT01 Pantaloni Torino: Californian beaches and Caribbean atolls are destinations evoked on fabrics, colours and linings. Garment-dyed trousers in summer colours with a vintage effect, the linings give a nod to surfing, the most popular beach sport in California.
On the feet, a search for escape, simplicity, harmony is triumphant. At Solovière, simple shapes highlighted by natural materials are on display, woven by hand to accompany globetrotters on their journeys. Slippers, derby shoes, city sandals, slip-ons for indoor and outdoor use flaunt an elongated silhouette, with saturated blocks of contrasting colour in vibrant combinations. Or, loved by Jackie Kennedy for their comfort and natural elegance, Zabattigli di Capri, traditional espadrilles - originally worn by fishermen in Capri - have now been back in vogue for several seasons. Sewn one by one in a shop in Anacapri, they feature unique designs and fine quality fabrics.
There is also a cosmopolitan spirit for the ubiquitous Larose Paris hats – designed in Paris and produced by a French manufacturer in business since 1946 with exceptional materials from around the world – celebrating the encounter between natural materials such as panama and canvas and travel-themed prints.
On the arm, canvas and leather bags with special treatments: Felisi focuses on Olona canvas, with a vintage yet sophisticated look, originally woven near Milan, on the banks of the river Olona. A canvas that became famous in the last century because it was used in sailing, first for the sails – thanks to its sturdiness – and then for clothing for sailors. Once waterproofed with linseed oil, it now receives a special non-drip treatment.

Innovative one-day bags designed to meet the needs of today’s professionals, from business meetings to weekend getaways, make up the range from Troubadour Goods, a luxury collection in which aesthetics, linearity and functionality come together, along with careful attention to detail and fine materials, worked by Italian master leather craftsmen. A laidback, chic image, where freedom and style are synonymous with savoir faire.
