ANREALAGE debuts at Pitti Uomo with TOKYO KNIT
Pitti Uomo 97 spotlights the legacy and the future of Japan’s knit manufacturing industry in the TOKYO KNIT special area at the Top Floor of the Central Pavilion.
Bringing together the century-old Samurai craftsmanship and Tokyo’s high-speed technology and cutting-edge production, the Tokyo Knit group also presents a collaboration with ANREALAGE’s visionary Kunihiko Morinaga. Known for integrating technology into avant-garde clothing, the Japanese designer and 2019 LVMH Prize finalist debuts at Pitti Uomo with the TOKYO KNIT x ANREALAGE capsule collection.
"I had mostly worked on womenswear, but last year I started making menswear and the distinctive feature of the brand is patchwork," explains Morinaga, presenting the project. “Patchwork is a sophisticated and delicate technique that takes a long time, but with this collaboration we have managed to expand and broaden production."
The collection – which includes 9 coordinates – combines creativity, tradition and innovation, in the sign of a style and manufacturing process that encapsulate the essence and values of the contemporary Japanese fashion scene.
I would like people to approach the garments and touch them," continues Morinaga. "Because some look like they might be something they are not, while others are seamless."
Received with great interest, the success of the focus on Japanese avant-garde knitwear confirms how Pitti Uomo is an international platform capable of finding, presenting and enhancing the most interesting proposals on the global fashion scene.
