PITTI FILATI 81: BUYERS' POINT OF VIEW

Mike Gruendel, Head of Creative Management for BOSS Menswear
The new Spazio Ricerca is incredible, from the set up to the music, it was absolutely perfect: besides the yarns, we also saw how they could be interpreted in knitwear garments, and that was an added value. I liked the new location of Knitclub and Fashion at Work, and I loved the fashion show by young talent from the Costume and Fashion Academy. Pitti Filati is the trade fair of reference for getting inspiration and real, genuine feedback on what you are creating. All of the knitwear companies presented interesting new products, with major attention to research. Days of total freedom for us designers.

Thierry Da Costa, head of knitwear design for Balenciaga:
Once again a marvellous atmosphere at a fair where you can discover new trends in the yarn and knitwear world. I also liked the Boom, Pitti Blooms and the Vintage Selection. I didn’t have enough time to check out Spazio Ricerca but the designers on my team really liked it! The fair allows you to strengthen relations with yarn manufacturing companies, which for us is essential. It also represents a time when we can all get together... And Pitti Immagine knows exactly how to organise the perfect family reunion!

Michelle Giller, ‎Senior Sweater Designer for ‎Calvin Klein
A great edition of Pitti Filati! The fair is really well organised and conceived in every way. It is fundamental for me to take part, to understand the cues and directions to follow for the next fall-winter season. Now I have a much clearer idea. I also really liked the Vintage Selection solutions, and the fact that it is close to the fair is a real plus.

Zoe Latta, designer and founder of Eckhaus Latta
This is my first time at Pitti Filati and I thought it was marvellous, a platform capable of presenting leading international yarn manufacturers all in the same place, with the chance to meet them and see what’s new. Then, the organisation and layout was impeccable, I would have almost needed an extra day to explore everything. Spazio Ricerca was a breath of fresh air and highly inspirational, with all of its many patterns and processes. It is a fresh source of ideas, allowing you to look at companies’ collections through a new perspective. For me, as a young designer it is essential to be able to forge relationships with top international yarn manufacturers, in order to compete more effectively on the market with much bigger and more successful brands. Interacting with all of the best yarn producers, in a dynamic yet informal atmosphere, was really unique.

Alex Phillips, Senior Designer Men’s and Women’s Billy Reid
My first time at Pitti Filati. The fair is perfectly organised and the various sections are very informative, both in terms of the structure of the yarn as well as its possible applications and inspirations. The Knitclub area is an incredible platform for discovering different production opportunities: the knitwear manufacturers, with their quality and experience, make up an important section. I really liked Spazio Ricerca: a wonderful showcase presenting how the various yarns can work together. Being at Pitti Filati is important for seeing the collections by leading companies in the sector, as well as for gaining inspiration and technical skills. A great show that presents all the innovations in the knitwear world, both in terms of yarns and garment making.

Edward Buchanan, Creative Director of Sansovino 6
The fashion show by the Costume and Fashion Academy was really marvellous! It is important to see students’ ideas in the knitwear world, a different sector from all the others in fashion. At the fair, I could feel high level of creativity, which I sensed also in the models at Feel the Yarn. It is a creative flair that feels free to express itself: a sign that companies are waking up and seeking new solutions. Within the Moda Futuribile project, the interaction between knitwear and technology is really special and unique. Pitti Filati is more and more the place to be.
