DOTS: Yayoi Kusama's signature by Oriana Picceni - Style Piccoli

Illustrated books are a precious chest of beautiful stories and different views on the world and everyday life. And each of us can seek the story interpretation that we feel closer with, entering it with our sensitivity, through our experiences and visions. Just like when you look at a work of art.

This is why we decided to dedicate a series in four episodes to talk about fashion through books devoted to some great artists' art, life, and skills. On the pages, we will be looking for style details and evocative patterns that may reference to the latest trends or, vice versa, inspire new ways

Yayoi Kusama. From here to infinity, by Sarah Suzuki and Ellen Weinstein (MoMA-Fatatrac edizioni, 2018)

Who is Yayoi Kusama?

And why did her polka dots begin to obliterate the whole world? In this episode, we will discover the brilliant Japanese artist's life and art; then, we will look into a very special wardrobe and see how polka dots can brighten up the next autumn-winter season. Sometimes, being light and delicate, sometimes colorful and exuberant.

If you're looking for ideas, check out the gallery below, where you can find some inputs from me:

In perfect Yayoi style: the sweatshirt with large blue dots by La Piccola Ludo.
Azzurri anche i pois che punteggiano l’abito con balza sul fondo di Paade, nel contrasto azzeccatissimo con il colletto check
The small dots peeking out here and there on the pink dress by Caffè d'Orzo are discreet instead, and worn with a tricot maxi cardigan.

Sonia Rykiel's fairytale dress is beautiful, dotted with small golden polka dots that surely make it magical.
Little bows and polka dots feature on Monnalisa's romantic blouse, with its large balloon sleeves.
Petit Bateau swaps its stripes with large white dots on a red background for this lively waxed jacket.

And if the days are still warm enough to be outdoors, there is nothing better than going out on Kiddimoto's pedal-less bike with a coordinated helmet!
However, at the end of the day, you can browse the book on Yayoi Kusama wrapped in the warm and soft Fabliek blanket... where polka dots become funny snowflakes!
