Brand Profile
BrancaccioDanza:
Founded in 2020 as a new section of the Training Department of Teatro Brancaccio in Rome, BrancaccioDanza is today an advanced center for dance education, artistic research, and performance production. It was created with the aim of establishing a center of excellence with an international vocation in the heart of the Italian capital.
An integral part of the cultural vision of Teatro Brancaccio – a historic Roman institution with a strong multidisciplinary identity – BrancaccioDanza positions itself as a place of professional growth for dancers and movement-based artists, placing at the core of its educational project the encounter between academic tradition and contemporary experimentation.
Located within the architectural complex of the theatre, the center features three large, fully equipped dance studios, the Brancaccino performance space – a modular venue suitable for creation, research, and public presentation – as well as a historic farmhouse and an exclusive green area. The accessibility of the venue, situated just a few minutes from Termini Station, makes it a strategic hub for students and artists from all over Italy and abroad.
The artistic direction of the center is entrusted to Alessia Gatta, a choreographer, dancer, and visual artist of recognized standing in the Italian and international scene. Founder of the [Ritmi Sotterranei] contemporary dance company, Gatta is known for a powerful, hybrid, and highly visual choreographic language, as well as for her multidisciplinary approach that brings together movement, light, technology, and visual art. Her work, presented in numerous international festivals and theatres, represents the core of BrancaccioDanza’s contemporary department, which aims to train versatile, aware dancers open to the creative process.
The classical department is coordinated by Clarissa Mucci, a long-standing teacher at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza in Rome and an authoritative figure in the field of classical dance pedagogy. Her career, developed between academic teaching and educational consultancy for institutions and companies, guarantees a solid, structured education aligned with international standards of high-level classical training.
Educational structure and training paths:
BrancaccioDanza offers a program structured into differentiated pathways, designed to meet the educational needs of dancers of different age groups and professional goals. The center welcomes young students from the age of six through a progressive academic path that supports technical, artistic, and personal development up to the age of eighteen. Its mission is based on integrated training between classical and contemporary techniques, with constant attention to quality of movement, musicality, expressiveness, and stage preparation.
For those wishing to pursue a highly specialized path, BrancaccioDanza offers the three-year professional course W.O.M. – international dance training, aimed at dancers between the ages of eighteen and twenty-four. This intensive program is structured to prepare students for an artistic career in the contemporary scene, combining in-depth study of academic and contemporary techniques with modules dedicated to choreographic creation, interdisciplinary experimentation, and the use of new technologies applied to performance.
The program places particular emphasis on the language of the contemporary dance company [Ritmi Sotterranei] led by Alessia Gatta, and is enriched by the presence of internationally renowned guest artists and teachers alongside a permanent faculty of exceptional quality.
W.O.M. – International Dance Training (where opposites meet) is a unique space in which different styles are integrated: contemporary dance, floor work, hip hop, breaking, acrobatics, classical dance, dance theatre, and Tai Chi Chuan, offering a comprehensive and innovation-oriented educational experience.
To complete the educational path, the center has established the W.O.M. Junior Company, a youth company composed of dancers selected from within the professional program. The company represents a true artistic production laboratory and a direct bridge to the professional world, through the creation of performances, participation in showcases and festivals, and the development of original choreographic projects.
An essential element of BrancaccioDanza’s educational approach is also the ongoing program of artistic residencies, workshops, laboratories, and masterclasses with internationally renowned choreographers and artists. These moments of direct encounter and exchange offer students the opportunity to engage in high-level immersive experiences, enriching their artistic vision and refining their ability to enter the contemporary dance landscape with competence and creativity.
An international identity:
With a clear international vocation, BrancaccioDanza has developed, since its foundation, solid connections with choreographers, companies, and artistic institutions throughout Europe and beyond. The center’s activities span a wide spectrum, from education to production, including choreographic research and the touring of performances, with the goal of training open-minded, competitive professionals fully integrated into the global contemporary scene.
Over the years, BrancaccioDanza has benefited from the support of important institutional bodies, including the Ministry of Culture, the Lazio Region, and the Municipality of Rome, which have contributed to strengthening and enhancing the center’s activities. The growing presence of the center in significant contexts such as festivals, showcases, and co-productions attests to the solidity of the project and its strategic importance within the national and international artistic landscape.
Body, vision, creation
BrancaccioDanza is today a dynamic environment where the language of the body becomes a tool for research, critical vision, and creative action. In close synergy with the artistic programming of Teatro Brancaccio, the center promotes a form of training that integrates technique, artistic identity, and contemporary sensitivity, offering each young dancer the opportunity to build an authentic, rigorous path oriented toward the future.
