Closed’s functional SS22 collection draws inspiration from artist Anish Kapoor

Exhibitors Spotlight focuses on a selection of brands exhibiting at this year's Pitti Uomo, showcasing their upcoming collections and special upcoming projects.

While our physical mobility may have been severely restricted over the past year, the season’s menswear trends do all but shy away from technical and conceptual innovation. Present among this year’s Pitti Imagine Uomo exhibitors, one such brand is the cosmopolitan label Closed. Contemporary in design and uncompromising in quality, Closed was founded in 1978, manufacturing a creative DNA that savvily draws inspiration from the very best of its European roots — French imagination, Italian savoir-faire, and German craftsmanship.

Committed to sustainability, the brand pays close attention to the production methods and quality manufacturing of their ready-to-wear, footwear, accessories, and jeans.
Titled “Reflection”, Closed’s Spring collection consciously and carefully situates itself within the tumultuous global reality of its existence, offering an apparel selection that is hopeful, soft, and clean — evocative of seasonal sentiments, but also of the world’s rebirth and slow return not necessarily to normalcy, but instead, to an entirely new normal grounded in transversality and adaptability. Sartorially, this translates into a focus on functionality, freedom of movement, comfort, and elevated simplicity.
Fittingly reflective of fashion’s profound connection and mirroring of other creative disciplines, the collection was informed by the work of British-Indian visual artist Anish Kapoor, and the unique maneuvering of material, shape, dimension, and pigment in his distinctive sculptures.
The SS22 silhouettes’ simple, crisp color palette nods to the image of a wild spring coastal wave, translating the ocean’s spray into a variety of shapes from ecru and platinum white to richer tones such as indigo and navy.

“Leaving a smooth and loungy winter collection behind us, we are leaving our comfort zone and are back exploring the outer rims,” says head designer Manfred Wagner. “The Closed positive energy is bundled in this collection. The elements, as the ocean’s spree and semi-precious stones, inspired us for the choice of colors and fabrics. Natural mineral dyes are an essential development.” Understatedly upbeat, modular, and stylish, Closed’s latest collection adds a fresh spin to modern functionality.
