Colmar Originals designs a bright collection in praise of post-lockdown optimism

Exhibitors Spotlight focuses on a selection of brands exhibiting at this year's Pitti Uomo, showcasing their upcoming collections and special upcoming projects.

Across this season’s most prominent trends, we have witnessed an interplay of styles, silhouettes, and sartorial philosophies. The dry labeling and predictable thinking menswear had historically been criticized for are melting away. Now the path is set for a new era of experimentation, flexibility, and openness. Among the collections on display this year, we’ve seen blends of streetwear and tailoring, relaxed business attire, and leisurewear taking on a sporty allure. All of these directional changes coinciding with the arrival of the summer attest to a collective desire to welcome change, novelty, and rebirth with open arms — and open spirits.

True to the general uplifting of the collective mood due to new beginnings, Italian outerwear brand Colmar’s latest collection is appropriately titled ‘New Optimistic World.’
Founded in 1923 under Manifattura Mario Colombo’s name, the label today known as Colmar — an acronym of its founder’s name— started as a small family business specializing in the production of felt in the Northern Italian city Monza. In the lead-up to the Second World War, the company began to manufacture workwear, slowly followed by skiing suits, soon establishing a respected reputation in the niche of snow sports. (Colmar designed the aerodynamic skiing suit of world champion Zeno Colò in which he was declared winner of the Oslo World Championships.)
In the past 20 years, the label began to progressively branch out of professional sportswear, positioning itself as a notable player in the world of streetwear and outerwear.
Observing the present and looking to the future, Colmar’s SS22 collection sourced both creative and technical inspiration in the environment surrounding us, be it tangible or abstract: from technology to art, and all the facets of human communication, style, and thought. Intelligence, awareness, positivity, and innovation are the key concepts at the core of the Italian label’s brand new offer of contemporary silhouettes, naturally conceived using an array of environmentally sustainable fabrics and production methods, sealed with Colmar’s distinguishable Green Path logo.
Including a selection of outerwear essentials proposed in a palette of neutral, classic, and easily matchable tones such as brown, ecru, navy, and pastels, the SS22 collection bestows a touch of hopefulness in celebration of each post-lockdown outing.
