“How far can we push the boundaries of artistic risk, technical design, and evolving sustainable principles?” This has been the question that has defined Holden’s approach to design since the brand was founded back in 2002.
Based in Venice, California, Holden is owned by Patrick Nebiolo who, along with creative director Scott Zergbel and former snow sports legend Mikey Leblanc, helms a label that creates innovative performance clothing produced in a sustainable way without compromising on style. Or, in other words, garments that look and feel as good in the city as they do on the slopes.
In contrast to the more relaxed, leisurewear brands one usually associates with the Californian aesthetic, Holden’s garments are a unique blend of casual elegance. As the brand tells us when we link up to discuss its latest collection, its aesthetic blends a “refined European craftsmanship with a distinctly Californian license to remix the formulas of luxury materials, unique textures, and fashion-forward casual silhouettes. From design to use, our aesthetic is defined by unconventional adventure.”
For FW22, Holden’s inspiration doesn’t venture too far from its core. The main creative prompts remain linked to “casual culture, world-class art, music, and the outdoor possibilities that surround us.” And, in terms of what we can expect garment-wise? “The lineup is bright and playful with loose, easy shapes in bold proportions, featuring blends of luxurious textures, finished with premium parts and pieces.”
What’s more, the brand continues, “we released some of the intent around gender specific designs. We offer womens, mens, and gender neutral items. Ultimately, it's up to what the customer is looking for. In some instances we see women shopping [for] our men’s items and vice versa.”
