Pitti Immagine Filati 91

29 June - 1 July 2022
Florence, Fortezza da Basso
Final report

Pitti Filati 91 took place from 29 June to 1 July 2022 at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence. The turnout data and feedback were both more than satisfying. With its return to the Fortezza after two however positive editions at the Stazione Leopolda, the show reaffirmed its role as a leader in high-quality spinning and future trends in international knitwear. There were 114 exhibiting companies, including 75 yarn manufacturers displaying new collections. A total of 32 companies were from abroad. More than 3,000 buyers from 50 different countries visited the Fortezza da Basso. It is not just a question of numbers, but most importantly, one of quality, starting with the collections and raw materials, through technological and stylistic innovation, to having a long-term vision of fashion. On the one hand, the strong global recovery in demand and, on the other, the objective problems that this same recovery is posing, in terms of procurement of materials, control of energy and logistics costs, management of price lists, were at the center of the debate. There was constant dialogue between the best international knitwear companies and the style departments of major fashion houses, while the Fortezza celebrated creativity through its Spazio Ricerca space, collaborations with international fashion schools, and a foray into contemporary art. So here is the final report on an edition that has restored confidence and inspired the yarn community.

Here is some feedback we collected from buyers at Pitti Filati 91:

Each time, I look forward to participating. First of all, for connections, Pitti Filati is the international knitwear industry meeting point. Then, to stay on top of all the trends and to understand all the new proposals from the companies, which were many in this edition. I really enjoyed the student collections presented by Feel the Green and the presence of Vintage Selection.

— Janina Parmelee, Senior Design Director - MICHAEL KORS

After two years of absence, it is wonderful to return to Pitti Filati. The fair has not changed with Covid in a positive way: there is always a lot of innovation, a good energy, and everyone is happy to be here. It is like a reunion for professionals in the field. Although I have been attending for twenty years now, I learn something new every time: it's incredible! As a yarn industry professional, I greatly appreciate the attention that almost all companies are paying to sustainability: it is no longer a trend but a consolidated reality.

— Kristin Schmidt, Sweater Production Contractor - TODD SNYDER

I am very satisfied with the proposals I saw at the fair. It is important for me and my team to attend Pitti Filati, since we see new yarns and techniques that help us in our creative process. It was a bigger edition with more exhibitors, and I especially enjoyed the installation by Maurizio Vetrugno.

— Giulia Bastiani, Knitwear and Jersey Senior Designer - JIL SANDER

An excellent edition. Companies have provided many different ideas, and this is an important aspect: the more special things yarn manufacturers offer, the more special products we will make. Having an international event such as Pitti Filati in Florence is an absolute privilege, especially since we have an in-house knitwear factory specializing in experimental and avant-garde knitwear, which has had an excellent response. I found the Spazio Ricerca beautiful, I never found it so inspiring. In short, an event you can't miss!

— Toni Scervino, CEO - ERMANNO SCERVINO

The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and serene. It feels like everyone is happy to be here. Pitti Filati is a great opportunity to meet industry insiders and get a feel for next season's collections. Future trends are born here. The Spazio Ricerca, the Feel the Green students' proposals, and the new machinery and services of Fashion at Work are all good.

— Melanie Geyer, Senior Designer Knitwear Menswear - MAERZ

Pitti Filati is a community of yarn people! The fair is different from others, more creative and fun, but also extremely professional. It is essential for me to participate because, unlike New York where I only meet agents, at the fair I can interact directly with producers: for a designer like me, it is crucial to understand how they work, how creative processes are born, and how yarns can be used. As always, I enjoyed the Spazio Ricerca. As well as the excellent organization.

— Mary Chin, Design Director - KHAITE

Pitti Filati is truly inspiring. The opportunity to see new developments in the world of yarns and breathe in the creativity of a city like Florence make it an important appointment for me. It is well organized, easy to navigate, and the Spazio Ricerca offers many interesting ideas. I'm glad to be back.

— Lauren Sander, Senior Designer Sweaters and Knits - REBECCA TAYLOR

Pitti Filati represents a time on the calendar where we get to immerse ourselves in ideas and inspiration. It’s important because it also allows us to view the collections of the mills that we work with in a very consolidated period, and it gives us the opportunity to share comments about what we saw and reconnect with other industry members. The atmosphere itself was lovely. The Spazio Ricerca was visually stunning. Loved the presentation and colors. I was really looking for inspiration and new ideas within the world of yarn and stitch development. I left the show feeling inspired, so yes, my expectations were met.

— Dushane Noble, Design Director knitwear - THEORY
