British war photographer Guy Martin will be covering the events of Pitti Uomo 91

Thanks to a special collaboration between Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery and nineteensixtyeight

Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery, in collaboration with nineteensixtyeight - a platform for contemporary photography, representing new talents, featuring and facilitating experiments in curatorial practice, and offering high quality collectible works - is pleased to announce that acclaimed British war photographer Guy Martin will be bringing his distinctive eye and experience to the upcoming edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo 91, covering events on and off the runway.

Winner of the Sony World Photography Award for Current Affairs (2014), Guy Martin is known for his powerful coverage of the revolutions that swept through the Middle East and North Africa in 2011, specifically his documentation of the Egyptian uprising and the civil war in Libya. Serious injuries sustained during his time in Libya led him to reconsider the obligation of photojournalists as supposed purveyors of documentary truth, reinforcing rather than questioning photographic stereotypes. His latest body of work considers the theatricality of the Turkish political state and the representation of truth and power in a society under siege.
Martin's work has been featured in Time, The New York Times, Guardian, Observer, Sunday Times, Der Spiegel, National Geographic, New Statesman, The Wall Street Journal, and Le Monde, among others. He is a former recipient of the Guardian and Observer Hodge Award for young photographers and winner of the FIPCOMM award (2014). His work has been exhibited internationally.
The previous edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo brought onboard nineteensixtyeight photographer Charles-Henry Bédué, recent winner of the 2016 Bourse du Talent for his fashion photography, currently on show at the Bibliotheque Nationale Française, Paris (ending March 2017). Bédué also has a solo show, Virtuous Circle, hosted by the Finnish Museum of Photography (ending January 2017). He was commissioned by Pitti Immagine to document scenes on and off the runway for the 90th edition of Pitti Uomo (June 2016), the results of which can be viewed in online exhibitions hosted by the Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery website and nineteensixtyeight.
In partnership with Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery, nineteensixtyeight works to find innovative ways of bringing fashion and photography into dialogue, offering valuable exposure to young photographers and bringing bold new perspectives to the art of documenting fashion.
