Testo, the new Pitti Immagine publishing event,
among the protagonists of the first Lettura Day reading initiative

Testo [come si diventa un libro] (Testo [how a book comes to life]), the new Pitti Immagine event dedicated to the world of contemporary publishing – whose first edition will take place at the Stazione Leopolda, in Florence, from 26 to 28 February 2022 – is among the protagonists involved in the inauguration of Lettura Day, the great collective reading organized by the association of independent publishers Adei.

The first appointment is scheduled for Friday, 23 April, on World Book Day, when a digital celebration will combine classic and pop readings, both in the studio and on the streets. The inauguration event will be live on social media from 5 pm.

For the occasion, Testo curated and produced the video of an evocative Dante reading, interpreted by Italian actor Marcello Prayer against the backdrop of the magnificent cenacle of the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence. The words of the Supreme Poet will also resound in the splendid Gothic church of Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona. Here, actress Silvia Bel will read the verses in Catalan (the first language The Divine Comedy was translated into).

Lettura Day will then continue until 26 September, every Thursday at 5 pm.
The website www.letturaday.it will collect readings from anyone who wants to participate in the initiative.

«It is an honor to link Pitti Immagine and Testo to a cultural initiative that aims to express the value of reading, transforming it into an inclusive and collective event thanks to digital tools,» says Agostino Poletto, general manager of Pitti Immagine. «The power and beauty of Dante's verses, as a tribute to the Florentine poet on the occasion of his seventh centenary, reaffirm the fundamental role that books have in our lives. After all, this is the starting point from where the idea of Testo came from: a fair that will give space to the most significant and interesting voices in contemporary publishing, showcasing the phases that go into the creation of a book and the people who contribute to transforming thoughts into pages.»
